Chamber Legal Expenses Insurance

What is covered

The Chamber Legal Expenses insurance policy provides cover for fully paid-up members of regional Chambers of Commerce that subscribe to the Chamber Legal Expenses insurance scheme.

The policy provides cover under the following sections*:

Employment Disputes:
Covers the legal expenses incurred in the defence of an Employment Tribunal claim brought against you by an employee.  In the event that you are unable to successfully defend the claim, the policy will indemnify you for an award which you are ordered to pay by the Employment Tribunal.

Health & Safety Prosecution:
Covers the legal expenses incurred in defending a health and safety criminal prosecution.

Tax Protection:
Covers the professional fees incurred in defending an enquiry into your tax affairs by HM Revenue & Customs.

Criminal Prosecution Defence:
Covers the legal expenses incurred in defending you in criminal proceedings.

Statutory Licence Protection:
Covers the legal expenses incurred in an appeal or representation to a licence-issuing authority following the suspension or revocation of a licence that you require in order to run your business

Jury Service Allowance:
Covers the salary paid by your business to your directors or employees in the event that they are called to attend jury service, where those costs cannot be recovered from the Court.  The maximum amount payable under this section of cover is £100 per day, £1,000 per claim.

Property Disputes:
Covers the legal expenses incurred in a dispute relating to property (buildings or land) that you own or occupy.

Data Protection:
Covers the legal expenses incurred in defence of proceedings brought against you under Section 13 of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Personal Injury:
Covers the legal expenses incurred in proceedings to recover damages for death or bodily injury sustained by a director or employee of your business.

Motor Disputes:
Covers the legal expenses incurred in proceedings to recover uninsured losses following a road traffic accident involving the insured, their directors or employees.

Wrongful Arrest Defence:
Covers the legal expenses incurred in defence of proceedings in relation to allegations of wrongful arrest or malicious prosecution.

Limit of indemnity:

The policy provides cover up to £100,000 in relation to any one claim, and £1,000,000 in the annual aggregate for all claims notified during any one period of insurance.  A lower limit of indemnity applies in relation to claims for Jury Service Allowance of £100 per day, £1,000 per claim.

​Excess:

There is no excess to pay in the event of a claim against this policy.

 

Upgrade

Chamber members can upgrade their legal expenses insurance cover to include cover for Debt Recovery, Contract Disputes, Restrictive Covenants and Insolvency Fees.  The upgrade is available subject to completion of an application form and payment of additional premium.
